My Adventurous Life

My children and I went to an Early Bird New Years Eve Party with our friends at the local bowling alley. We rang in 2009 early.......at 8:30 pm. My kind of night! I hope everyone has/had a Happy New Year! Now I'm off to bed before midnight. LOL!

My children and I visited the Beehive House, in Salt Lake City. It is one of the homes where Brigham Young and his family lived. Brigham Young was President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and governor of the Utah Territory during the 1800s. We could hardly understand our tour guides (two female missionaries). One was from Russia and the other from Korea. They both had heavy accents and had trouble finding the right English words they wanted to say. It has been about 20 years since I last toured the Beehive House (and I only work a block away) and it was the first time for my children. They seemed to enjoy seeing all the antiquated items in the home and listening to the stories about the pioneers. An interesting story told was how Brigham Young instructed the pioneers who were coming to Utah, to build their covered wagons out of oak (a hard wood), so they could make something out of it (table, etc) when they arrived because Utah mainly had pine (a soft wood) availabl...

Every December my children and I visit Salt Lake City's Temple Square during the evening to enjoy their wonderful light display. This year we decided to go during the daylight hours instead, which wound up being so much better! I think we may do this every year! Usually in the evenings, at this time of year, Temple Square is packed with people. As a result, my children are never able to get a close view of the large Nativity and we never even attempt to go in the building housing the Christus because it is usually wall-to-wall people. This time we missed seeing all the lights and didn't get to hear choirs singing, but we were able to see everything else and not have anyone standing in our way or shuffling through a crowd! It was great. Also, the day we went the sun was shining and it warmed us up!

My children and I went ice skating yesterday with my friend. My son took off right away with no problems. He was skating like a maniac and fell down several times. He even knocked another skater down. I was lucky enough to get a picture of him running into the other skater, before she fell. He even knocked the back of his head on the ice and decided to sit on the bench for awhile until the pain subsided. Maybe he should wear a helmet! He has always wanted to play hockey and I never knew if he would be good enough on skates. After this, I feel he would be fine playing Hockey. Maybe next year. My daughter insisted on holding a hand and/or the rail. I thought she would warm up after a few minutes and skate without help, but she never did. I think she was more apprehensive this year than last year in comparison. Maybe she saw her brother and didn't want him knocking her down! LOL! My children and I decided to start playing more board games and have made Sunday and/or Monday our family game nights. We started yesterday and will continue through 2009. My son is old enough to understand some of the more advanced games and we have plenty to choose from. Yesterday my daughter selected Old MacDonald had a Farm (which is a game for young children) and my son selected Stratego. We had fun playing both games and can't wait for our next game night!

My son got the IRON GYM for Christmas. It is something he seen on a television commercial and wanted the day he seen it. He said the commercial claims you will be RIPPED in 30-days. He said because he is not an adult he does not believe he will get ripped, but he will try anyway. He works out on it each morning and all throughout the day. Who knows, maybe he will get ripped ;D

On Christmas morning my son woke us all up at 6:00 am . I told him to go back to bed, but could see he was too excited, so we got up! When my son saw all the gifts Santa Brought he said: "Wow, Santa even brought gifts I didn't ask for!" "How did he know I wanted a bike?" My daughter said: "Is Christmas tomorrow?" It was dark, so I figured she was confused and didn't know it was really morning. She again asked the same question later in the day. I explained Christmas was not tomorrow, but today. She said: "But I only got 3 presents!" Apparently she was only counting the gifts she didn't have to share with her brother! I know she sounds greedy, but I love her anyway! Christmas day was filled with playing games, playing more games, working out on the Iron Gym (my son), naps (my daughter and I), eating yummy turkey, and riding bikes at dusk! In the evening we went and visited Grandpa, Grandma and Aunt Ginger. We had a super fun Christmas!
