Louisiana Swamp Exibit - Audubon Zoo

My work sent me to New Orleans, LA, in July 2006. The damage the city had experienced from Hurricane Katrina could still be seen and smelled (mold) all around. I took my children with me and we made a little vacation out of it.

We went to the Audubon Zoo, which was way cool. It too had damage from Hurricane Katrina and some of the animals were temporarily relocated while the zoo was doing repairs.

The Louisiana Swamp Exhibit at the zoo, looked like a real swamp. The only difference is at the real swamp the alligators swam all over the place and jumped up out of the water (for hotdogs or marshmallows the tour guide was throwing in the water). At the zoo the alligators seemed to lay motionless. I guess we needed to throw them some food, huh?

While at the zoo, we got to see white alligators, which my children loved. In the summer of 2007 we got to see a white alligator again, when the Audubon Zoo temporarily loaned one to Utah’s Hogle Zoo.

This layout was inspired by Marjorie Eno's color challenge #10. We had to use at least three of these colors: Kiwi, Buttercup, Citrus Leaf, and Topiary. And we were allowed to add another color if we wanted. I added Bubble Gum. I have black ink on the layout too.

Stamps: Nature Walk, Adventure, Essential Alphabet, Doodle Alphabet, Charm Lower Case, and Calendar
Accents: Pewter Brads, Flowers, Sparkles, and Waxy Flax
Technique: Dry Embossing
Reflection: 5k Front & Center- Basic; 5l Front & Center- Photo Focus

Very cool layout!! I love the added bubblegum flowers, the rhinestones around your DD picture and the way you embossed your paper! Those pics of the alligators look awesome too! Sounds like you guys had a fun time even though the going was tough down there after Katrina. Thanks for playing ^_~

My 1st Half Marathon of 2013!

I ended 2012 with a GAIN (weight that is) but I started 2013 with a BANG and ran a half marathon yesterday (well 15.1 miles actually)! And my children both ran a 10K (6.2 miles). I am so proud they run with me. The race was inside the Olympic oval which was fun to see. I love my BLING (below). My next half marathon is in 19 days! It will be a FUN run and I cannot wait to run it. I ran 6 half marathons last year and I hope to run even more this year. I ran 2 miles more than a half marathon because the line to turn in the timing chip was long. Funny thing about it is my friend knew she was two laps behind me. Because I kept running so did she. She was so mad when she found out she could have stopped earlier.  After the race my daughter passed out cold. I think she is ready for a day of rest after 3 days of snowboarding and a day of running.

Fun in Florida at Walt Disney World!

My children and I spent nine days in Florida at Walt Disney World with my best friend. We had fun, but it is good to be back in the dry heat! My children and I cannot stand the humid weather! The last time I was in Walt Disney World was 15 years ago. I loved it. I decided it is far too big of a place when you have small children. Disneyland is so much better for the young ones because it is smaller.
