Our Long Boring Drive to the Oregon Coast!

We have been waiting all year for our trip to the Oregon Coast. My daughter begs all the time to drive to the ocean. I don't think she understands how long of a drive it really is to get to the ocean. We were in Florida a few years ago, where the ocean water is warm. That is when both of my children fell in love with the ocean, not to mention the beach that was full of shells. I was afraid that when they got to the Oregon coast and felt the cold water they would be disappointed.

I love to drive when I am on a scenic path. However, the drive to the Oregon coast took us through the top of Nevada, which is like a desert waste land. I felt like we were the only vehicle on the road in the middle of no where. The drive was long when there was nothing to look at but dirt.

My children were amazingly good on the drive. They either watched DVDs or slept. I was glad they were good, because if they were bad, it would have made the long drive even harder!

My 1st Half Marathon of 2013!

I ended 2012 with a GAIN (weight that is) but I started 2013 with a BANG and ran a half marathon yesterday (well 15.1 miles actually)! And my children both ran a 10K (6.2 miles). I am so proud they run with me. The race was inside the Olympic oval which was fun to see. I love my BLING (below). My next half marathon is in 19 days! It will be a FUN run and I cannot wait to run it. I ran 6 half marathons last year and I hope to run even more this year. I ran 2 miles more than a half marathon because the line to turn in the timing chip was long. Funny thing about it is my friend knew she was two laps behind me. Because I kept running so did she. She was so mad when she found out she could have stopped earlier.  After the race my daughter passed out cold. I think she is ready for a day of rest after 3 days of snowboarding and a day of running.

This is What Made ME CRY the Most!

We drove past these homes by the canal everyday and everyday I wanted to stop and walk down to them. Oprah always says "Everyone has a story" and I wanted to talk and visit with them and hear their stories. I was with David H. the first time we drove past these homes. The sight of them choked us both up. He could hardly talk and had tears in his eyes. I cried thinking how selfish I am to have a nice home but am always longing for one bigger and better. Here these people lived in what could be mistaken for a child's club house. On our last day in Mexico me, my girl friend, and my children stopped by these shacks next to the canal to pass out toys and blankets. My only regret was that I didn't have more blankets and I didn't speak Spanish and therefore was unable to hear their stories! I gave these old toothless men blankets, which made my girl friend mad. She knew we didn't have a lot of blankets and she wanted me to pass them out to the women and/or children. ...
