Body Worlds

We went to Body Worlds 3 last week and were fascinated by what we saw. It was better than anything you could have ever seen in a science class!

It was interesting to see what our body looks like on the inside. I was amazed the uterus was a lot smaller than I ever imagined. It reminded me of a little coin purse. The liver and stomach are a lot bigger than I thought too. No wonder why I can eat so much food! LOL!

We were able to view healthy organs and damaged ones. We even got to see a cross section of an obese man. I walked away wanting to take better care of my body!

They also had several embryos to view at multiple stages of gestation. I never knew the fingers could be seen after only a few months. It was amazing to see how the heart, brain, & spinal chord are the first organs formed when we begin life.

While we were at Body Worlds 3 there was a big protest going on at city hall across the street. It was due to proposition 8! There were two different crowds. The bigger crowd was for gay marriage and the smaller one against it. They were all screaming weird stuff. Overall it was a peaceful demonstration probably due to the amount of police present. My daughter read one of the signs and wanted to know what "homo" meant.

My 1st Half Marathon of 2013!

I ended 2012 with a GAIN (weight that is) but I started 2013 with a BANG and ran a half marathon yesterday (well 15.1 miles actually)! And my children both ran a 10K (6.2 miles). I am so proud they run with me. The race was inside the Olympic oval which was fun to see. I love my BLING (below). My next half marathon is in 19 days! It will be a FUN run and I cannot wait to run it. I ran 6 half marathons last year and I hope to run even more this year. I ran 2 miles more than a half marathon because the line to turn in the timing chip was long. Funny thing about it is my friend knew she was two laps behind me. Because I kept running so did she. She was so mad when she found out she could have stopped earlier.  After the race my daughter passed out cold. I think she is ready for a day of rest after 3 days of snowboarding and a day of running.

This is What Made ME CRY the Most!

We drove past these homes by the canal everyday and everyday I wanted to stop and walk down to them. Oprah always says "Everyone has a story" and I wanted to talk and visit with them and hear their stories. I was with David H. the first time we drove past these homes. The sight of them choked us both up. He could hardly talk and had tears in his eyes. I cried thinking how selfish I am to have a nice home but am always longing for one bigger and better. Here these people lived in what could be mistaken for a child's club house. On our last day in Mexico me, my girl friend, and my children stopped by these shacks next to the canal to pass out toys and blankets. My only regret was that I didn't have more blankets and I didn't speak Spanish and therefore was unable to hear their stories! I gave these old toothless men blankets, which made my girl friend mad. She knew we didn't have a lot of blankets and she wanted me to pass them out to the women and/or children. ...
